What is a Capo?

A capo is a small device clamped onto the neck of a guitar to shorten the playable length of the strings, effectively raising the pitch of the instrument. It allows guitarists to play in different keys without changing chord shapes, making it easier to perform songs in various musical styles.

How Does a Capo Work?

By pressing down all the strings at a chosen fret, a capo acts like a movable nut. This raises the pitch by a half step for each fret it is placed above the guitar's open position. For example, placing a capo on the 2nd fret will raise the tuning of all strings by two semitones.
